I believe this project has become my number one option for revision because the topic is such an interest of mine. Social media has been around for the majority of my life time and I’ve seen both sides to its use. I interact with it in my personal life but also use it academically for clubs or possible careers. Also, I knew from the beginning of the year I wanted to do something involving media. When I was first throwing ideas around, I considered a blog from Journalism and a mass media presentation. I liked the blog because it measured the authenticity of news outlets regarding their story angles and possible bias. And for the mass media presentation, it focused on individual involvement with media throughout one’s life. Yet when I finally dug up my ENG-110 essay it felt like the two prior assignments collided into a tangible path. The essay had more structure in terms of what was revisable and it allowed me to exercise another strength of mine, writing.
After reading my original work a few times I startd to take notes of what I want to add to a revised version. The original prompt is still interesting to me because of its point about relationship building, but I want to extend it further. I plan to do so by taking the element of personal identity from the mass media presentation and connecting it with the prior prompt.
I also want to change at least one of the sources used to create the argument. Although Maria Konnikova’s piece is a strong example for the relationship building component of my revised work, I don’t like Adrian Chen’s article. It more-so tells a coming of religion story than it does about the dangers and fake-ness of the internet. So, another element of my revision plan is to scout out more reliable sources related to my idea.
Lastly, I plan to clean up the clarity and quality of my work in the revised version. The original has a decent amount of grammar mistakes or overly worded sentences, something I’ve improved on greatly. There is also no use of naysayer arguments or barclay style paragraphs to make the essay more engaging. I plan to revisit how to effectively use these writing techniques and implement them into the final work.
