- Demonstrate written communication skills expected of a future professional in the field.
- Write for specific purposes and situations
- Write informatively, persuasively and clearly
My interpretation of the above outcome is that students must be able to produce writing that is intentional, clear, and serves a specific purpose in relation to its requirements. Furthermore, being able to write in an informative and persuasive manner. The assignment I believe demonstrates all of the above qualities is the grant application for WRT-317: Grant Writing.
This assignment was a group project over 15 weeks that asked students to identify as real nonprofit organizations and construct professional standard grant applications. Each section of the grant serves its own specific purpose in informing readers, telling a story, and persuading funders (in this case the Pepper Foundation). Research and weekly peer-workshops also influenced the quality and cohesiveness of the work in order to meet the clarity expectation.
