The article I chose for today class discusses whether the humanities will withstand budget cuts to educational programs at universities. Their example subject for this is WVU, who are cutting down their language, landscpe, arts, and architecture programs. Something that stuck out to me was the reason for such cuts, stated by the state auditor of Mississippi, Mr. White, as, “the state should invest more in college degree programs that could “improve the value they provide to both taxpayers and graduates.” He said that humanities programs not only earn less monitarly, but in some instances, require students to branch from their universitys location. Overall, the article continuously emphasized employment opportunities and salary. Yet, Mr. White also encourages that students find a career that comes from passion but also teaches practical skills “that the word actually needs.”
