JOURNAL # 7: Detail your process for selecting your non-profit. Was it a negotiation? What made you sure this was the right non-profit for you and your group? How are you communicating with your group?
After choosing what grant we were going after, I decided to take a look back at one of the suggested websites for nonprofits in Maine. From there, I looked at multiple nonprofits listed that were categorized as education based and/or arts based. On each website, I read through their missions, values, programs, and event grant awards (which only some websites had). The choice really came down to what aligned most with the grant we are seeking, and fit our interests. After doing this I took my top two candidates that fit our search and texted the links/my thoughts to my group members. They both looked through the websites and read about each nonprofit, contributing what they liked & their overall preference. It didn’t feel like a negotiation but a natural agreement. In the end, we are choosing to represent the Maine Alliance for the Arts. You can read about their website here: https://mainearted.org
