In this class, I am looking to expand on my knowledge of grant writing and the process of doing such. As a writer myself I find it very important to have skills and experience in nearly all genres or “types” of writing. It will give me a broader sense of professional writing and its role within businesses, nonprofits, and other career paths. Although I have not determined my career, I think grant writing could play some role in my outcome. At the moment I am actually interning at a nonprofit in Portland, The Telling Room. This nonprofit aims to help children become motivated, excited, and supported when it comes to creative writing. It also serves as a safe space for marginalized communities within Portland/Southern Maine area. Learning some of the essential skills in this class will have me better equipped for any tasks they may assign having to do with grant writing. It also gives me a head start on a potential job or career path in nonprofiits specific to writing.
