Considering the work I have done in the past, there is a lot that would relate to the job position I chose to focus on. Beginning with the camp counselor portion of the title, I have:
- Worked at a Kiddo location for two years working with kids ages 5-8 years old. In this position I managed a group of 20 children alongside a fellow counselor. We led all day-time crafts and activities, made their lunch, and provided any first aid if needed
- Worked two weeks at a sports location with ages 9-13 before being moved to a location that required more qualified counselors
- Responsible for children ages 9-13 in public areas such as amusement parks, water parks, and stadiums
- This aligns with the job requirements that detail how experience with children is a required aspect
For the journalism portion of the job requirement, I instill:
- Leadership of a small journalism team that works closely together in order to publish a student newspaper
- Experience in making lesson plans and weekly documents for meeting agendas
- Have taken multiple courses in communications, specifically Intro to Comms. and Intercultural Comms. I have also taken courses in digital tools and Journalism.
- Within the area of study that is recommended for the position, being Communications and English
- Ability to digitally publish articles to an online newspaper. Some experience in the background of physical publishing
- This aligns with what the job entails because they are looking for current college students in this field of study, experienced in working with journalism, particularly student journalism. Acclimated to the nature of deadlines and the needed motivation for leadership and teaching. This can be reflected in both my position as Editor-in-Chief and a counselor.
