Subject: Application for Journalism Instructor and Summer Camp Counselor at Camp Lindenmere
Dear Counseling Staff,
I am presenting this cover letter for consideration for the Journalism Instructor and Counselor position at Camp Lindenmere. I heard about your team’s offer through Handshake, the website for finding internships and careers. With both my background in Journalism and being a camp supervisor, I feel I could be a beneficial addition to your team.
I am currently a third-year student at the University of New England, studying Communications and English alongside a minor in Writing. At university, I’ve had three semesters of being the Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Bolt. I’m a writing fellow tutor and on the university leadership council as well. Academically, I’ve taken courses in Journalism, Communications, and Effective Public Speaking. These courses align with the fundamentals of Journalism and display my depth of communication skills in interpersonal and professional relationships. This, I’m sure, will be a crucial addition to your team.
Outside of my education, I have three years of experience as a camp counselor for Braintree Parks and Recreation, working at multiple locations and children ages 5-13. Included in my experience are both child and adult CPR certifications. I believe that giving back to the community, especially children, is of heightened importance. Providing them with the encouragement to write and guidance to do so is my goal.
My experience in these roles has allowed me to develop a motivated personality and strong work ethic. As an Editor-in-Chief, I actively work towards cultivating a goal-oriented and teamwork-based environment. There have been several scenarios in which I’ve led group activities and discussions. Qualities such as these are ones that I feel confident I could apply to the classroom and camp environment.
Enclosed in this email you will find my resume and samples of my published work. I can be reached by two contact methods, either mya.hankes@gmail.com or (505)-555-5005. My interview availability is afternoons mostly with prior notice. I am excited to meet and speak with your team.
Best,
Mya Hankes
