So far in the relationship with my faculty mentor, it is going quite well. I believe I have an advantage in the scenario because I know Professor Cripps quite well. I have taken one of his classes in the past and he is my faculty mentor for my major disciplines. This is made it so I had a lack of worry or anxiety when it came to meeting with his for the first time or being in his classroom. I had a jist of what his expectations were based upon my own experience also. Once we met, I found that his expectations, for the most part, aligned with what I had been thinking. I found that some of his expectations for me as a fellow were less high stake than I had initially expected. The job began to sound more relaxed and motivational than the rigid idea I had. For a future fellow, the biggest advice I would have is to go in open minded both about the course you are placed in and the professors standards. The conversation you’ll have regarding the class will ease any anxieties or preconceived negative thoughts. I also think one very beneficial thing to do with your faculty mentor is to meet prior to the course launch so you can be prepared from the beginning.
