Journal #4

Going into this week, I have been thinking about the peer tutor relationship a lot. This is mostly due to the experiences I had this previous week with the tutor sessions I had. The class I am assigned to had an assignment to meet with me during the week to discuss some aspect of the class so far. What was surprising about this was that only 8 students out of 19 signed up, and only 4 actually came. This caused some frustration because there wasn’t notice from my tutees that they no longer could attend.

This makes me wonder what their view of me is as a writing tutor. Am I another professor that they have to see which causes the task to be tedious and resentful? Or have I, as a tutor, not come off as a comfortable environment to go in to? Of course, with trying to refrain from taking anything personal. The tutees that did attend I felt had a lively conversation with me and took something away from the overall experience.

Im curious how the zero for the grade of meeting with me will affect the tutees. I would like to believe that they may come to me in the relative future, as there is another meeting assignment with me in a few weeks. For right now, I am attending the classes and participating in lectures when I can. I often take notes on the classroom environment and pick up on what students talk about or questions they ask. I feel like these notes can aid me in the future on how to approach a meeting with some of the students
