I thought that todays workshop was a bit slower than our others have been. I don’t believe this to be detrimental, I think many of us are feeling the affects of burnout through academia. Regardless, it was still a good workshop. All three of the stories that we looked at were relatively strong, one thing in particular was that they all had some great titles. I appreciate this in a story because it ropes the reader in and adds emphasis to the meaning/angle. The stories themselves too all were interesting and made me want to keep reading. If anything, I felt today was more of a copy editing day than anything. Like I had said, the stories themselves we’re all strong so they really just needed some tweaking. To break down into specifics, some writers had abbreviations for things others were not sure of, run on sentences, and small grammatical errors. Although these are minor details, they separate a good story from a great one.
