The first article I read for this week is a small opinion piece regarding the dining hall hours on UVMs campus. I thought this was a really interesting piece as it can be compared to the same issue surrounding UNE’s dining hall hours. The argument is that although there is one dining hall on campus accessible past 9:30, not all students are done with classes, sports, or extracurriculars until after the dining hall is closed. Also, students who live on other areas of campus would have to travel to that one open dining hall if they wanted to be served food past 8 PM (when the other halls close). It seems simple to fix this issue and should be nonexistent considering the over 2,000 dollar cost for dining per semester on UVM’s campus.

The second article I read was a feature piece about student small businesses on UVM campus. It highlighted three different student businesses that ranged from art, earrings, and clothing. I found this to be a fun, soft news piece. Also, something I may consider pitching to the Bolt in the future as I am sure there are students on UNE’s campus with similar talents. I also liked that not only did it highlight the artists, but it also gathered student opinion from someone who has purchased an item from two of these small businesses. It adds a rounded approach to the story and hones in on the purpose of bringing attention to small student-run businesses. Lastly, it also includes information (almost like a promo) on where these students can be reached to purchase things.
