I think I have been able to give my peers some very constructive feedback so far. I enjoy writing and editing (and have my position with the Bolt) so this is all right up my alley. The most helpful feedback I have give people so far has definitely been with the use of quotes and formatting.
When we went over Maddie’s piece, I was able to give her feedback on her format. Her feature at the time had read more like a narrative story over a news piece. I gave her the suggestion of splitting up some of the blocky paragraphs and eliminating unnecessary information. I also suggested that she allow her interviewees quotes speak for themselves rather than set up what they’re saying for them. I believe these comments had a big impact on the way Maddie’s story developed.
Another piece of feedback that I gave and found to be helpful was with Jordan’s piece. She had a really strong start with her information and quote usage, not leaving much for suggestion. One thing I was able to add was the possibility of interviewing a students experience with Digispace and how that could impact her paper. She already had another interview to include but this was not the route she was planned on taking. I believe I was able to give Jordan another idea of a direction her piece could go in by suggesting this.
Overall, I really enjoy giving my peers feedback and am vocal as much as I can be.
