I think the biggest thing I noticed from the first run of our interviews was how even the little things get picked up. This means simple as body stance, feet shaking, pencil tapping, etc. It scares me a little that these are easily picked up on because they’re often subconscious actions, but it was good for me to watch. I think my group, the observers, may have benefitted the most from this exercise. Although we were not actively participating, we were able to examine every part of the interview. We could “call out” the small elements that take away from the effectiveness of an interview because we were outsiders. All we could do was look for fault. I know this is similar to what an interviews mindset is, to not only take in the great information but look for these weaknesses. Being an outsider I believe made me realize this. Going forward, I believe I have a better understand of what there is to be expected. Maybe even get into the mind of the interviewer a bit. I think my biggest challenge will be to remember the small notions that take away from an interview, and anxiety. Although these are my classmates, were going into a real interview setting where I have to acknowledge them as professionals. This gives me anxiety for some unknown reason, probably just the idea of being sole center of attention. These are things I can prepare though, working on my fidgeting and body language, and breaking through those nerves by practicing.
