The big takeaway and resonation that I found in Cuddys’ talk was the idea of “fake it until you become it”. I had always been very confused with the statement until you make it, because what if you make it and know nothing? Cuddy explores this idea in her talk and ways that you can actually become who you want to be. A lot of this comes down to the way we show ourselves physiologically and how we present to the outside world. I have not really considered the way that I sit in class or in social areas displays my confidence and my emotions. Listening to the experiments that Cuddy performed as a social psychology, I can completely stand by her ideas. The hormonal changes that we go through when feeling and looking powerful compared to weak were interesting me. It made me reevaluate the way I look when I am in sitting in classrooms, not in a self conscious and insecure way, but to make sure I look more open. I want to portray body language that embalms my personality and aids in building my confidence. The biggest take away (and one that I will be using more often) is using power stances before big events or things I have to do. I truly believe that doing a power stance before going in to (in this lets just say my Lone Wolf speech) will better the outcome.
